Several years ago, I was going through a rough patch.  Overwhelmed, discouraged, disappointed and distressed, I was trying to just do it all on my own.  Uncertainty had me gripped with fear and anxiety.  In short, I was a mess.  Until one day I finally prayed, "Okay God, I can't do this alone.  Give me the faith to trust You."  And a funny thing happened... Every day an apropos Bible verse would pop into my head.  Verses that I had learned many years before as a kid.  Some that I didn't even remember having committed to memory.  But there they were - little gems that helped me realize that God was there, He cared, and I didn't need to do it on my own!

Fast forward a few years later... my mom and dad were both experiencing health issues.  Remembering how much those scriptures meant to me, I put a label on an old prescription bottle and filled it with Bible verses about healing.  They loved it!  Each day they would take out and read one of those little slips of paper and, following the instructions on the bottle label, pray for healing.

Fast forward several more years... With mom and dad's advancing ages and the Covid shutdown, my husband and I moved across the country to care for them.  I never knew how hard caregiving is.  It hits every aspect of life, both good and bad.  Again, it was the scriptures that gave me encouragement and strength - physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.  Strength and encouragement I needed even more when my husband's health failed, and I became the sole caregiver for three people.

After caring for mom and dad for three and a half years, within seven months of each other, in their 91st and 100th years, they graduated to heaven.  Great for them! But for me, I'm left with sadness, grief and loneliness.  Not to mention enormous holes in my heart.  Once again, I've turned to the scripture, and once again I am receiving comfort and a peace that passes all understanding.
